A quest is any habit, goal, or action you want to track. Here’s how to create one that works for you.
Quest Types
- Boolean (checkbox) - Did you do it? Yes or no. Great for simple habits like “Meditate” or “Take vitamins”
- Number - Track quantities. Perfect for “Drink X glasses of water” or “Write X words”
- Text - Journal entries. Ideal for reflections, gratitudes, or daily notes
Elements
Every quest can have a primary element (and optional secondary element):
- Assign Air to learning quests, reading, meditation
- Assign Fire to work output, exercise, creative projects
- Assign Water to journaling, social activities, rest
- Assign Earth to routines, health habits, organization
Cadence
How often does this quest apply?
- Daily - Every single day
- Weekly - Specific days of the week
- Weekdays - Monday through Friday only
- Monthly - Once per month
- Custom - Every N days, until done, etc.
Fixed vs Swappable
- Fixed quests are your core commitments - things you’re serious about
- Swappable quests are experiments you might change
Fixed boolean quests automatically get a 75% yearly goal. That means if you complete it on 3 out of 4 days throughout the year, you’re on track.
Tips
- Start small. One or two quests is better than twenty you won’t track
- Be specific. “Exercise” is vague; “Do 20 pushups” is clear
- Choose elements thoughtfully. They help you see your balance over time
